And the new organizing plan is . . .

Billboards!

Well, I hope there’s more than that.  On a related note, I should perhaps mention that UI is cutting health insurance for its fulltime instructors, such as myself.  I should have it this semester and next (if I have teaching next semester)—but this coming summer, I’ll have no health insurance, unless I buy it myself.

A year from now, it’s just possible I’ll be teaching somewhere else.  Hard to imagine, but we’ll have to wait and see.  Perhaps  somewhere where one can go and see a doctor if necessary, even in the summer.

Further related notes:

* UI to offer degrees over the internet

and

* UI fails to make Newsweek’s new list of “New Ivies”

Go figure.

No doubt the billboard will convince everyone that 2% dues are reasonable and fair.

On the other hand, based on the job announcements they’ve posted there’s been an effort to hire one permanent and three temporary organizers, so…

We here at TDQ have been assured by the GEO powers that be (well, by one of ‘em anyhow), that this billboard is not in fact the whole of the organizing effort for the semester, which is good news for them.

I think that if they were going to use billboards alone for organizing, that they would probably need to get at least a couple more.
